SF PROJECTS!

Staging Film’s -∞ (The Bad Infinity) premiered on CUNY TV Presents in 2023. -∞ (The Bad Infinity) is an “experimental cinema essay,” adapted and directed by Graham Sack (NYT VR’s Lincoln in the Bardo), based on writings by acclaimed avant-garde playwright Mac Wellman. The film's cast includes acclaimed experimental theater actors from the last four decades of the New York downtown scene, ranging from Lynn Cohen (Vanya on 42nd Street, The Hunger Games), Tony Torn (a staple of the works of Reza Abdoh and Richard Foreman), and Greig Sargeant (frequent collaborator with Elevator Repair Service) to Steve Mellor and Jan Leslie Harding, who originated roles in Wellman's most iconic works.

Staging Film’s work is populated by great New York stage talent, including Tony Award nominee & two time Obie Award winner Leigh Silverman, Tony Award nominee & Obie Award winner Heidi Rodewald, Lilly Award winner Chisa Hutchinson, Obie Award winner Caridad Svich, Obie Award winner Black Eyed Susan, Ovation Award winner José Zayas, Alan Schneider Director Award winner Kimberly Senior, and many more!

IN MEMORIAM

Staging Film mourns the death of director and producer, Lanie Zipoy. Ms. Zipoy was preparing to join the Staging Film family, and we are devastated by the loss of this brilliant spirit. Lanie was a visionary within the independent theater and film communities. She was a champion of many, and will be deeply missed by many. Our most profound condolences go out to her friends and family, especially her sister, Kat.

Lanie’s feature directorial debut, The Subject, starring Jason Biggs and Aunjanue Ellis, won over 21 awards on the festival circuit. Watch an interview with star Nile Bullock and director Lanie Zipoy on Facebook Live here. The Subject was acquired by Gravitas Ventures in 2021. You can watch it here.

We remember the great, late Lynn Cohen and her husband, Ron Cohen. The last film Lynn made was our Staging Film short, The Bad Infinity. Ron subsequently participated in multiple panels, discussing the film. Staging Film is honored to have had their support and talent. Our heartfelt condolences to their family and community.

Lastly, Staging Film remembers Jaime Carrillo, a wonderful actor and theater artist. Jaime took part in a Staging Film panel in 2020. Our deepest condolences to Jaime’s loved ones.
